Northwich Victoria took advantage of a slip from Hednesford Town to move into second place in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division on Saturday.
Vics notched a 2-1 win in an exciting clash with FC United of Manchester, while the Pitmen fell to a 1-0 defeat at Worksop Town – Tigers skipper Mark Hudson with the goal. Chester FC remain top following a 2-1 win at Marine.
At the other end of the table, Whitby Town remain the only team in the three Evo-Stik NPL divisions without a home win, losing 4-3 to fellow strugglers Buxton, who picked up their first win in twelve games.
Burscough remain bottom of the division after a defeat to Chasetown, who are finding a good rhythm with just one loss in the last seven games.
Kendal Town picked up a much needed 4-2 win over Stocksbridge Park Steels, who haven’t won on the road in six attempts, while Stafford Rangers picked up their first home win in seven games against a Frickley Athletic side who have now lost five on the bounce.
Elsewhere, Mickleover Sports are without a win in ten games now, but came from behind to earn a home point against Ashton United.
A frozen pitch put paid to Bradford Park Avenue’s clash with Chorley, ice and snow caused the postponement of Matlock Town’s match with Rushall Olympic, while North Ferriby United’s trip to Nantwich Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

MARGINSON, PARSLEY, HALLCRO AND ALBANS REWARDED
Source: Non-league Daily
The Evo-Stik League Manager of the Month awards for November have gone to FC United of Manchester’s Karl Marginson, Neil Parsley of Farsley Celtic and Grantham Town’s joint management team of Wayne Hallcro and Jim Albans.
Marginson’s FC United won three and drew one of their four league fixtures in the month in addition to overcoming a tricky looking away tie in the FA Trophy at Durham City where they drew before winning the replay. In the next round of the Trophy FC United secured a well deserved win over Blue Square Bet North club Altrincham to finish with five wins and two draws in their seven games during November enabling Marginson to lift the top tier award.
Farsley Celtic started November with defeat against Skelmersdale United in what surprisingly transpired to be the only time in the month that “Skem” picked up maximum points. Parsley (pictured), however, regrouped his troops to reel off five successive league victories in the rest of the period to move in to play-off contention and take the Division One North award.
The joint Grantham Town management team of Wayne Hallcro and Jim Albans have been carrying all before them recently in the Division One South and their side reeled off six straight victories in the month to give themselves eleven successive three pointers and leave Grantham unbeaten in fifteen league outings going in to December.

Only two matches went ahead in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division on Tuesday evening, and they both ended in 1-1 draws.

Elsewhere, Stocksbridge Park Steels took the lead through Jack Muldoon in the 16th minute of their match against Frickley Athletic, but the visitors levelled on 74 minutes through Bradley Grayson.
Kendal Town's scheduled match at home to Chester was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

ROCA RETURNS TO HAUNT ALTY

Blue Square Bet North side Altrincham were dumped out of the FA Carlsberg Trophy by Evo-Stik League Premier Division side FC United of Manchester in a Third Qualifying Round tie on Sunday.
Former Alty player Carlos Roca (pictured) broke the deadlock with an excellent long-range shot to put FC United ahead.
Altrincham equalised when Jack Redshaw headed home.
But a Michael Norton header on 78 minutes gave United a 2-1 victory.

FC UNITED RELEASE CHADWICK
Source: Non-league Daily
Karl Marginson, manager of Evo-Stik League Premier Division side FC United of Manchester, has agreed to release former captain David Chadwick.
"The reasons essentially boil down to finances," said Marginson. "Chaddy is getting married next year and he needs to be playing and earning regularly in order to save for the big day.
"It is difficult to see a player like Chaddy leave, we have known each other for a long time and I consider him a friend. But I can’t guarantee him a starting place every week so I fully understand his reasons for moving on.
"He has been an absolutely magnificent servant to the club from its earliest days and, as club captain, he has played a major part in the club’s development."
Margy believes that United fans may not have seen the last of Chadwick (pictured) and hopes to be welcoming him back one day.
He added: "Chaddy has shown an interest in the non-playing side of football and I have told him that the door is open for him to return to the club in the future as it continues to grow and develop."
When Margy signed Chadwick in August 2005, the manager said United had gained the sort of player who would put his head through a brick wall if he was asked to. And Chadwick certainly lived up to that billing during his 209 appearances for FC United.
The centre-half always led by example on and off the pitch. He scored 25 goals for the Reds with arguably his most celebrated one capping a memorable day at Edgeley Park in November 2005 when he headed home a last minute equaliser to make it 3-3 with Cheadle Town.

NEW-LOOK FC UNITED
Source: Non-league Daily
On the eve of the Evo-Stik League Premier Division starting, Karl Marginson, manager of FC United of Manchester, added two more players to his first-team squad – making it thirteen newcomers in total.
Wide player Chris Ovington has crossed the Pennines to join from league rivals Bradford Park Avenue.
Ovington signed a two-year contract with Garforth Town in September 2009 after joining them following nine years with neighbours Leeds United.
Ovington, an attacking player with blistering pace, impressed Garforth`s management after receiving the man of the match award against them when playing on loan at Guiseley in the FA Cup the previous season.
He moved onto to Park Avenue in January 2010.
Josh Burke is actually returning to FC United after a spell with groundsharers Bury.
The teenage midfielder came through the ranks at FC United before making a brief sojourn to their landlords.
Amongst Marginson`s other recruits are Zach Hibbert – 20-year-old goalkeeper who has joined from Chorley, Scott McManus, also 21 and a former Manchester United trainee and Crewe Alexandra central defender, Martin Parker, a centre back from Vodkat North West Counties League neighbours Glossop North End, and Lee Neville, a 21-year-old left-back and winger, who re-joins the club after having a brief spell training with the squad in February 2009.
Three more experienced signings include Richard Battersby, a 31-year-old right-back who has played for the likes of Stalybridge Celtic, Altrincham and Northwich Victoria, prolific striker Mike Norton, 29, who has scored ten in nine pre-season appearances for FC United after netting over 200 goals for Curzon Ashton, and 37-year-old Colin Little (pictured).
The former Crewe, Macclesfield and Hyde United striker has joined FC United following a six-year spell at Altrincham.
However, ex-Stalybridge Celtic, AFC Telford United and Altrincham midfielder Steve Torpey, who has been playing for FC United during the pre-season, is now considering his options on where to play his football.
FC United`s assistant boss Roy Soule said: “Steve has received offers from a number of clubs higher up the non-League Pyramid and so he is considering his options.
"Steve is well aware of our financial situation and he has to decide what the right option is for him. He’s got a close affiliation to the club and he’s really enjoyed his pre-season, so we’re hopeful but the decision rests with Steve.”
The door has also been left open for a number of FC United`s other summer triallists, including former midfielder Tunji Moses.
Nick Swirad has been playing for Vodkat North West Counties League side New Mills and it is hoped similar `loan` deals can be arranged for Jamie Mack and Grant Shenton, although both those players are yet to register for FC United this season.
Soule added: “I’ve been to see Nick play recently for New Mills against Atherton LR. We like to go see them ourselves and not leave them to dwell in oblivion. Nick is doing very well and we’ll be keeping a close eye on him. We’re in discussions to get Jamie and Grant clubs too.”

Now Quistin Joins Fc United
Source: Non-league Daily
UniBond League Premier Division club FC United of Manchester have signed well-travelled 25-year-old Guadeloup international midfielder Ludovic Quistin from Zamaretto League Premier Division side Hednesford Town.
Quistin, who is reputedly the cousin of Arsenal and France defender William Gallas, has played for several non-League clubs in England but most notably Weston-super-Mare, King’s Lynn, Boston United and Tamworth.
Quistin has recently relocated to the north-west and was recommended to FC United’s assistant-manager Roy Soule by a contact at Hednesford.
He will not feature in Saturday’s match at Northwich Victoria as he is cup-tied.

BACUP DELIGHT AT STRIKERS` RETURN
Source: Non-league Daily
23/02/2009
Brent Peters, manager of Vodkat North West Counties League Premier Division club Bacup Borough, finally got his wishe when his leading marksman Tommy Turner (pictured above) returned to the club following a short stint at UniBond League Premier Division neighbours FC United of Manchester, where he bagged five goals in nine appearances.
A highly delighted Peters (right) said: “It`s not for me to question how an opposing manager wishes to conduct his selection policy. However, what I will say in the case of Tommy Turner is that he is without doubt a top striker who is a natural finisher.
“It’s my opinion that with any strikers they play on their confidence and their confidence comes with scoring goals, but that said they need to be playing regularly.
“Tommy’s return in games played at FC United certainly can’t be ignored. However, he needs to be playing every week and that is the reason he has returned to us.
“I stated on his departure that he had unfinished business here at Bacup Borough, and I also stated that he had bigger fish to fry than FC United of Manchester. This is something I firmly believe he will achieve with the help and guidance of myself and my excellent coaching staff of Lawrence Greenhalgh and Phil Melville.
“Tommy Turner has got a lot of football to be played here at Bacup, and with twenty-three league matches still to play, he has the chance to not only help push Bacup into a challenging position in the league but also he can achieve personal goals for himself.
“Currently he sits two goals behind the Premier Division’s leading goalscorer, and is in the running for the `golden boot` award. Should he achieve on both fronts, then who knows where that will take him, and by this I mean Conference or Football League level, such is the confidence I have in this lad.”

GLADIATORS HOPE TO PUT ON THEIR SUNDAY BEST FOR FC UNITED
04/02/2009
UniBond League Premier Division club Matlock Town look set to play their first Sunday game in two decades when FC United of Manchester come to Causeway Lane next month.
The Derbyshire Constabulary have ruled that the Gladiators cannot stage their league clash against FC United, who regularly take a following approaching or over 1,000 fans to away games, on the scheduled Saturday date of 7th March. Now it seems almost certain that the match will be played twenty four hours later on Sunday, March 8th with a 3pm kick-off.
Explaining the fixture change, Matlock`s Chief Executive said that the move came about due to Derby County entertaining Bristol City at Pride Park Stadium on the Saturday.
"Due to heavy policing requirements for the Derby County versus Bristol City game on Saturday, March 7th, the authorities have instructed that the Matlock Town v FC United of Manchester game due to be played on the same day is moved. We have discussed the situation with both FC United and UniBond League officials and they have both given their support to the fixture being moved to the following day, Sunday March 8th with a 3pm kick-off. The information has been passed to the relevant Police authorities and we expect to receive their full approval during discussions on Thursday. We are very grateful for the very prompt and positive response we've had from the management of FC United and we're confident that the 24 hour delay will not detract from what promises to be a very attractive fixture, possibly similar to the exciting opening game of the season which ended 3-3 in Manchester."
