FRICKLEY Athletic booked their place in the semi-finals of the Doodson Sport League Cup after coming from a goal down to beat FC United of Manchester 3-1 last night.
Mike Norton gave United a seventh minute lead which the visitors held until the 42nd minute when Kelvin Bleau made a made an excellent run unto the box before firing home the leveller. Within two minutes Frickley had turned the tie on its head as defender Stuart Ludlam outjumped the United defence to bullet home a header to send the hosts in 2-1 up.
Frickley came close to extending the lead just after the break only for Peter Knox to fire a geat chance over the crossbar when the veteran striker ought to have done better.However, the Blues grabbed the third on 72 minutes when Danny Walsh slotted home after Ryan Mallon had laid the ball off from a James Ashmore cross.
In the Baris NCEL Premier Division, Armthorpe Welfare came away from Nostell MW with a 1-1 draw. James Eyre’s gave the home side 54th minute but Armthorpe levelled with six minutes left, James Walker latching onto a ball over the defence to score from a tight angle. The visitors almost snatched three points in the last minute when Joe Lumsden’s shot was brilliantly pushed round the post.
