POLICE chiefs have been warned an attempt to prevent trouble at a nonleague football match could make potential problems worse.
Chorley FC play FC United of Manchester on Saturday at Victory Park, Chorley, and police have ordered an 11.30am kick off.
By stopping fans drinking, they aim to prevent a repeat of trouble that marred a match between Chester and Chorley last season.
But Bolton Wanderers play Manchester United at the Reebok Stadium at 5.30pm and there are fears yobs could target both games, with FC United fans travelling to the Reebok to watch Manchester United.
FC United was set up by disgruntled United fans but some continue to follow Manchester United, who are the local rivals of Wanderers.
Chorley FC officials have made their match all ticket but there are fears troublemakers could gather near Victory Park. Chorley South East Cllr Alistair Bradley said: “While I understand why the police have brought the start forward, there are possible ramifications.
“It only takes a few minutes to get between the two grounds by train and there is a recipe for things to fall apart.”
A Chorley FC spokesman said: “It is unfortunate that we are in this situation.
“These decisions have been taken to reduce any potential of a repeat of the incidents that took place before and after our fixture with Chester.”
The Evo-Stick league’s operations manager, Alan Allcock, said: “I am a little surprised on the insistence of a change of kick-off time for this fixture in view of FC United’s excellent behaviour by their supporters.”
A Lancashire Police spokesman said the Force could not comment on the issue.

FC United slumped to their fourth defeat in a row as they lost to Ashton United.
Phil Marsh headed the Rebels into the lead in the UniBond Premier League clash at Gigg Lane on Wednesday night.
But Iain Howard equalised from the penalty spot after Ben Morris tripped Marlin Piana.

LEIGH Genesis kept alive their hopes of a place in the UniBond League Division One North play-offs with a point at Woodley Sports thanks to Matt Jansen’s equaliser with 20 minutes remaining.
Although Genesis ran out 2-0 victors when the two sides met at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium last month, Leigh’s last visit to Lambeth Grove resulted in a 2-1 defeat in the UniBond League President’s Cup first round last October.
Dale Whitham, Leigh’s main attacking threat, was unlucky when his header from a corner was headed off the line on 18 minutes.
Leigh went behind on the hour when goalkeeper Steven Drench misjudged a cross that allowed Danny Queeley to nip in and loop a header into the empty net.
They hit back when Tom Ince delivered a perfect cross from the right that substitute Jansen hooked into the net.
In the same division, Radcliffe Borough squandered a two-goal lead in an eventful first half at Prescot Cables where they drew 3-3. James Mullineux put Boro ahead on 14 minutes and Alistair Brown added the second 17 minutes later.
But a Karl Brown double in the 39th and 44th minute – the first from the penalty spot – put the home side right back in it.
Ben Wharton restored Boro’s advantage two minutes after the restart, but Phil Cooney levelled again nine minutes later.
Boro entertain Lancaster City tomorrow night, kick off 7.45pm, in their penultimate match of the season.
In the Premier Division, FC United looked to be on course for a shock victory at leaders Boston United until a late goal blitz saw them go down 4-1 in front of a crowd of 2,533.
Jerome Wright gave the Rebels the lead in the fourth minute which they held until Boston equalised on 70 minutes. The home side went ahead on 77 minutes, scored again two minutes later and got a fourth two minutes from time.

FOOTBALL: FC United are to develop a football ground in Newton Heath — the birthplace of Manchester United.
The supporter-owned club, which was established when the Glazer family took over Manchester United in May 2005, is proposing to include new and renovated community sports facilities and a multi-function community space at the 5,000-capacity stadium.
FC United hope to secure the finance for the £3.5m development, which will be at the Ten Acres Lane sports centre owned by Manchester City Council, which will be ready in two to three years, by a public appeal for donations, a Community Shares issue and grant funding.
The team return to action tomorrow in the Unibond Premier Division looking to get back to winning ways after a recent horrendous spell which has seen them lose four of their last five games.
They have to travel to Guisley, however, who are riding high in second spot and one of the favourites for promotion.
Radcliffe Borough go for their third consecutive win when they travel to arch-rivals Chorley tomorrow.
Boro have climbed up to the fringes of the Division One North promotion play-offs, and director of football Gerry Luczka — a former Chorley manager — reckons the Stainton Park outfit could be the dark horses of the campaign.
They beat promotion candidates Skelmersdale United 2-1 in their last league outing after defeating Bamber Bridge.
With 10 games remaining, Luczka said: “There is still a lot to play for. It just needs someone to come with a late run and they could squeeze into contention.
“There is no reason why it can’t be us.”
Boro are currently in eighth place in the table, eight points off the play-offs, but have games in hand over most of their rivals.
Leigh Genesis have had a remarkable resurgence in Division One North despite the loss of their financial backer and have won four and drawn one of their last five games.
They are just one place outside the play-off zone and they hope to continue their impressive run of results tomorrow when they make the trip over the Pennines to face Garforth Town, a mid-table side with little to play for other than pride.

In the First Division North Leigh Genesis had to settle for a goalless draw against play-off rivals Curzon Ashton, who hit the post in stoppage time.

Lee Mason opened the scoring on 34 minutes and Tom Greaves took advantage of the space as Boro pushed for an equaliser when he banged home the second with seven minutes remaining.

FC United’s surge toward the UniBond Premier League play-offs came to an abrupt end with a crushing 3-0 defeat at Buxton.
The Silverlands club took the lead on 17 minutes through Kieran Lugsden and Lee Morris doubled their advantage nine minutes later.
Mark Reed seeled the win seven minutes from time, leaving the Rebel Reds in 10th place, eight points away from the play-off places.
Leigh Genesis, meanwhile, capitalised on their 5-1 thrashing of Chorley with an excellent 2-0 win at Trafford.
In-form striker Jordan Stepien — who notched a hat-trick against Chorley — had his shooting boots on again when he broke the deadlock with 31 minutes remaining.
He provided the two-goal cushion from the penalty spot in the last minute.
Genesis’s UniBond Division One rivals Radcliffe Borough, in 10th place, are two places and seven points behind Leigh but have played three games less and they did their late-season charge no harm with a 2-1 win at Warrington Town, who were also pushing towards the play-offs.
Gerry Luczka’s men had in-form duo Ben Wharton and Adam Roscoe — who have notched 15 and 13 goals respectively so far this season — to thank for their win, although Warrington’s Chris Gahgan might have scored a second equaliser from the penalty spot, but he skewed the last-gasp kick wide.

The rebels were unbeaten in three matches going into the game, but they were two goals down at half time after Ludovic Quistin put through his own goal on five minutes and Mark Whittaker doubled the visitors’ advantage two minutes before the interval.
Ben Deegan pulled one back for FC on the hour before captain David Chadwick levelled five minutes later.
Chris Bolder put Ferriby back in front 19 minutes from time, but Deegan grabbed another equaliser from the penalty spot on 79 minutes.
In Division One North, Leigh Genesis turned on the style to beat Chorley 5-1 at Victory Park, with Jordan Stepien scoring a hat-trick.
Genesis took the lead in the 12th minute when Jack Dorney swept the ball home.
The lead was doubled four minutes later when Stepien converted Tom Ince’s low cross.
Chorley pulled one back five minutes after the restart when Alex Porter flicked in a cross from one-time Genesis man Chris Amadi.

FOOTBALL: FC United will be chasing a fourth successive victory when they take on play-off chasing Kendal Town at Gigg Lane tonight.
The in-form Rebels have surged from just above the relegation zone up to 10th in the UniBond Premier League table following a fine run of results.
Three more points against seventh-placed Kendal would boost their own hopes of a late promotion push, which has been helped further by the signings of Salford City centre-back Mark Ayres and midfielder Angelos Tsiaklis, a Cyprus Under-21 international, from Blue Square Premier club Wrexham.
Leigh Genesis are in Division One North action tonight against Rossendale at the Sports Village.
Last night, Radcliffe Borough were beaten 4-0 by leaders Lancaster City at the Giant Axe.
Adam Farrell bagged a brace while Jordan Connerton and Max Rothwell were also on the scoresheet.

College to offer rising stars a sporting chance

ASPIRING young sportsmen whose hopes of joining professional clubs have been dented, could still realise their dreams of playing at a high standard, thanks to a new initiative at Bolton Sixth Form College.
When the college’s new town centre campus opens in September, three sporting academies — boys football, girls football and cricket — will be run in conjunction with standard A-level and BTEC Diploma courses.
The new academies are designed to offer 16 to 18-year-olds a high level of academic tuition with the addition of quality coaching in their chosen sport and a high standard of competition in national leagues.
The college’s website claims the new academies will offer students “a fantastic opportunity to excel in sports where they already have a high level skill.”
The boys’ football academy, in particular, will give late developers and talented youngsters who have failed to secure places at professional clubs a chance to make the grade, while continuing their academic education.
A partnership has already been established with ambitious UniBond League club FC United of Manchester and local NW Counties League club Daisy Hill, who will host their home games in the Youth Football Conference at their New Sirs ground.
The girls’ football academy, which has already attracted 18 applications, will play in the British Colleges leagues.
The cricket academy, which has had its plans approved by the Lancashire Cricket Board, has forged links with clubs in the Bolton League and Bolton Association and aims to play its games on various local grounds.
Alan Tomlinson, who is developing the cricket programme and has not ruled out establishing a girls’ cricket academy, said: “We’ve met with the League and Association and the clubs were very positive towards the development of the academy.”
Craig Thomas, co-ordinator of the college’s football academy and part-time manager of Daisy Hill, says the football element of the new courses could even put talented young players back in the shop window.
“This is not about coming to the college just to play football or cricket, it’s about gaining a good education,” he explained.
“But students who gain places on the academies will be offered coaching to a very high level — with sessions on skill development, fitness, diet and video analysis — opportunities to gain coaching qualifications and, as far as football is concerned, will be playing at probably the best level available outside the professional game.
“The league they will play in — the Youth Football Conference — will put them up against academy teams from high grade clubs such as Burton Albion, Stalybridge Celtic and Farsley Celtic and is well-scouted by professional clubs.
“Bolton is a hotbed of football and cricket and the academies will be offering the best opportunity to get a really good education with a high quality of sport tuition on top.
“Students will come out with A-level qualifications or a BTec Diploma with their sporting talent and education developed to a high standard. The progression route could then be university football or American scholarships.”
Bolton Sixth Form College will hold its open evening on March 2 and trials for the football academy will be run in March and April.

The new academies are designed to offer 16 to 18-year-olds a high level of academic tuition with the addition of quality coaching in their chosen sport and a high standard of competition in national leagues.
The college’s website claims the new academies will offer students “a fantastic opportunity to excel in sports where they already have a high level skill.”
The boys’ football academy, in particular, will give late developers and talented youngsters who have failed to secure places at professional clubs a chance to make the grade, while continuing their academic education.
A partnership has already been established with ambitious UniBond League club FC United of Manchester and local NW Counties League club Daisy Hill, who will host their home games in the Youth Football Conference at their New Sirs ground.
The girls’ football academy, which has already attracted 18 applications, will play in the British Colleges leagues.
The cricket academy, which has had its plans approved by the Lancashire Cricket Board, has forged links with clubs in the Bolton League and Bolton Association and aims to play its games on various local grounds.
Alan Tomlinson, who is developing the cricket programme and has not ruled out establishing a girls’ cricket academy, said: “We’ve met with the League and Association and the clubs were very positive towards the development of the academy.”
Craig Thomas, co-ordinator of the college’s football academy and part-time manager of Daisy Hill, says the football element of the new courses could even put talented young players back in the shop window.
“This is not about coming to the college just to play football or cricket, it’s about gaining a good education,” he explained.
“But students who gain places on the academies will be offered coaching to a very high level — with sessions on skill development, fitness, diet and video analysis — opportunities to gain coaching qualifications and, as far as football is concerned, will be playing at probably the best level available outside the professional game.
“The league they will play in — the Youth Football Conference — will put them up against academy teams from high grade clubs such as Burton Albion, Stalybridge Celtic and Farsley Celtic and is well-scouted by professional clubs.
“Bolton is a hotbed of football and cricket and the academies will be offering the best opportunity to get a really good education with a high quality of sport tuition on top.
“Students will come out with A-level qualifications or a BTec Diploma with their sporting talent and education developed to a high standard. The progression route could then be university football or American scholarships.”
Bolton Sixth Form College will hold its open evening on March 2 and trials for the football academy will be run in March and April.

The Rebels found themselves 3-0 down after just 24 minutes before Carlos Roca pulled one back four minutes before half time.

Craig James, Rory Coleman and Adam Novakowski put the Yorkshire side into a three-goal lead after just 52 minutes in front of more than 1,100 fans at Gigg Lane.
Simon Carden hit a quickfire brace in the last 10 minutes to ensure a frenetic finale, but Karl Marginson’s men had left themselves too much to do.
Radcliffe Borough were beaten 2-1 by Prescot Cables in UniBond League Division One North.
Aaron Rey and Phil Cooney had given the visitors a first-half lead, and Jody Banim’s strike two minutes from time proved a mere consolation.

Buckley gaffe forces Daisy AFC replay

FOOTBALL: Daisy Hill have been ordered to replay their Division One game against AFC Liverpool, which they won 5-4 in September, because they fielded a player who should have been serving a suspension.
John Buckley, who is on loan at New Sirs from FC United and scored a hat-trick in Daisy’s win, was handed a seven-day suspension in the summer after accruing five cautions playing for FC’s Youth team and Mancat College last season.
None of the clubs were aware the suspension had been handed down, nor was the player, but it was later discovered that the he was ineligible for the game. Daisy Hill have been fined by the Lancashire FA while Buckley has been fined and handed an additional three-match suspension.
The NW Counties League have ordered that all record of the September 5 fixture be declared null and void and have ordered the game to be replayed.
Daisy Hill secretary Bob Naylor insisted neither the club nor the player were aware that he was ineligible for the game.
“We’ve fallen foul of circumstances beyond our control,” he said.
Meanwhile, Daisy Hill are on weather watch in the build-up to tomorrow’s Division One game at home to Chadderton.
Heavy rain forced the postponement of their Co-Operative Lancashire Trophy tie at Marine on Tuesday night and with more wet weather forecast, many of this weekend’s NW Counties fixtures are under threat.
Division One rivals Atherton Collieries are at home to mid-table Cheadle Town, kick off 3pm, and Premier Division Atherton LR whose midweek home fixture against Glossop North End was their third postponement of the autumn, travel to lowly Ashton Athletic.
Rovers League Cup replay against Daisy Hill has been arranged for Tuesday, November 17 at Crilly Park, which has forced the postponement of the league game against Winsford, which was scehduled for that date.
The home game against Bacup Borough, which was scheduled for November 24, has been brought forward to Tuesday, November 10, but LR still have four home and two away matches to be rearranged.

The Rebel Reds’ dreams of FA Cup glory were dashed when strikes Mark Danks, an Adam Tong own goal and Wayne Riley condemned them to a 3-0 defeat at Northwich Victoria.
“We’ve had a great run,” said FC manager Karl Marginson. “Credit to the lads for getting so far.”
There will be extra spice for the Vodkat League Cup second round clash at the weekend when Daisy Hill host Atherton LR.
Daisy, who have had an encouraging start to their season in the Vodkat North West Counties First Division, will be after upsetting their neighbours who play in a higher division.
Atherton Colls are in league action where they will be after precious league points at Oldham Boro, a side also desperate to haul themselves away from the bottom of the First Division.

The likes of Leeds, Southampton, Charlton and landlords Bury all await the breakaway club if they can beat their Blue Square North opponents. And, having already upset Stalybridge Celtic from the same division in the last round, the Gigg Lane tenants will be confident of keeping their Wembley dream alive at Victoria Stadium.

FC UNITED face a mouthwatering FA Cup clash at Northwich Victoria after claiming the biggest scalp in their short history.
In the third qualifying round, the reds slugged out a 3-3 stalemate with Blue Square North side Stalybridge Celtic at Gigg Lane on Sunday, forcing a replay at Bower Fold on Tuesday night.
Before a crowd of 1,923, a solitary goal from left winger Jerome Wright put the Unibond Premier Division side ahead 11 minutes before the break.
Wright momentarily ventured out onto the right and was given enough space to smash a 25-yard strike into the top corner of the net.
And despite five tense minutes of stoppage time, United held out for the win.
But questions could be raised in the referee's report after punches were thrown among players at the final whistle.
It is the furthest the Rebels have ever reached in the FA Cup since being founded in 2005.
They must now beat Vics, another Blue Square North outfit, on Saturday week (Oct 24) to earn a place in the first round proper.
