FC United Of Manchester 3 - 0 Chorley

Chorley were put the sword by FC United's razor-sharp front line at Gigg Lane last night (Wednesday).

Two goals from the reds' top scorer Rory Patterson, another from Stuart Rudd and a devastating performance from Jerome Wright helped United to a 3-0 victory, which would have been more but for man-of-the-match Peter Collinge's heroics in the Chorley net.

The Magpies have now lost five games in a row, without scoring in the last four and only threatened when Danny Nolan carved out a couple of half chances for himself.

FC United were ahead as early as the eighth minute when Wright burst down the left, cut inside the penalty area and found Patterson, who scored from close range after first stumbling over the ball.

Collinge saved twice more from Patterson in their personal duel before hald time, and then on 50 minutes, Wright's pace outstripped skipper Martin Clark, and the rapid forward found Patterson who poked home for 2-0.

In the closing stages, Mike Eckersley had a chance to grab a consolation after a United mistake in their own penalty area, but he fired over the top.

Rudd then went clear to round the superb Collinge and roll the ball home for 3-0.
