FC UNITED'S wanted man, Jerome Wright, further impressed his growing band of potential suitors by hitting the goal which put the Rebel Reds on the road to victory at Kendal.
York City target Wright, who's also thought to be being chased by at least two League clubs, struck to give Karl Marginson's men a 13th minute lead as they sought to bounce back from two successive UniBond premier division defeats.
Simon Carden then made it 2-0 shortly before the half-hour mark and, though the Cumbrians pulled a goal back with a 65th minute penalty awarded against Simon Garner for handling, FC held on.
Glossop North End suffered a Vodkat League promotion set-back ahead of Saturday's FA Vase quarter-final with Marske United as they could only draw 2-2 at struggling Nelson. Marske beat St Ives 3-0 in the Vase.
