FC lose to promotion rivals

12/ 2/2009

FC UNITED slumped to a 3-0 defeat against promotion rivals Nantwich Town in front of 1,547 supporters at the Weaver Stadium.

Michael Lennon broke the deadlock with a 13th minute penalty and the reds were always chasing the game after that.

Ashley Carter doubled the lead with a good counter attacking goal on the hour mark before Lennon delivered a sucker punch by netting his second goal of Saturday’s game with four minutes to go.

Despite having a great deal of possession, it was a rather toothless performance from United and they clearly missed the capabilities of the UniBond’s leading goal scorer Kyle Wilson, who will remain on the sidelines for several weeks due to a knee injury.

Despite the defeat, fifth-placed FC are still in the play-off places and they will hope to further their claims for promotion when they host basement club Leigh Genesis at Gigg Lane this coming Saturday, February 14, kick-off 3pm.
