Rebels suffer setback

February 16, 2009

FC United's UniBond premier promotion hopes were unexpectedly hit as they crashed 4-2 to relegation-threatened visitors Leigh.

United target Phil Marsh was the main architect of their downfall with a hat-trick which included two penalties. Chris Thompson bagged Leigh's other goal.

Neil Chappell and debutant Carl Lomax replied for the Rebel Reds.

Ashton United came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Whitby at Hurst Cross, while in division one north, Curzon Ashton took the derby honours with a 4-1 win at Radcliffe but Salford remain 14 points adrift at the bottom after losing 1-0 to visiting Durham.
