UNIBOND LEAGUE ROUND-UP

Newcastle Blue Star 0 FC United of Manchester 4

FOLLOWING a dramatic U-turn Newcastle Blue Star were yesterday re-admitted into the UniBond League Division One North

Only a few weeks ago the Kingston Park club stunned the North East football scene by announcing they had applied to be relegated back into the Arngrove Northern League after one season.

At the time, they blamed the long journeys for the decision but since then results have improved significantly and Saturday’s defeat by FC United of Manchester was their first in eight games.

The club refused to comment last night other than to confirm that a meeting of the UBL management committee held in Cheshire ratified their application for the earlier decision to be rescinded.

Paul Baker’s side were playing their fourth game in eight days on Saturday and it showed, particularly in the later stages, when tired legs were much in evidence. In the first half, however, they just about held their own even though the visitors enjoyed much more of the play.
