FC United moved to within two points of leaders Bradford Park Avenue following a thumping 4-0 victory at Newcastle Blue Star.

The Rebel Reds, buoyed by Thursday's Presidents Cup final victory over Radcliffe Borough, were always in control once top scorer Rory Patterson opened the floodgates on 40 minutes.

Jerome Wright doubled the visitors' lead before skipper Dave Chadwick and striker Nick Robinson completed the rout.

Karl Marginson's men have just two games remaining to secure automatic promotion, starting with the visit of relegation candidates Woodley Sports on Wednesday. The Reds wrap up their league campaign next weekend with a trip to Garforth Town.

At the other end of the table, it was a bad day for Radcliffe Borough, who slumped to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Chorley.

Jordan Goodeve opened the scoring for the visitors just before the hour, and Mike Eckersley made it 2-0 four minutes later.

Disaster struck for Boro when goalkeeper Phil Priestley was dismissed for giving away a penalty which Eckersley duly dispatched.

Mark Drew drove the final nail into Boro's coffin before Lee Connell scored a late consolation for Peter Coyne's men. Boro are back in action tomorrow night when they visit Bridlington Town.
