FC United have a great chance to get their play-off hopes back on track in 2009 when they take on two sides below them in the table in the space of three days.

The 11th-placed Rebels entertain Ossett Albion on New Year’s Day before travelling to struggling Worksop Town on Saturday in the UniBond Premier League.

And the Gigg Lane tenants will be keen to take maximum points after slipping up against Ashton United last weekend.

Karl Marginson’s side went down 2-1 at promotion rivals Ashton United in their only game over the Christmas period.

Ben Deegan headed the home side into the lead on 27 minutes after some sloppy defending from the Reds.

Chris Baguley went close for FC before Jerome Wright struck the post after the break.

But it was Ashton who stretched their lead through Callum Flanagan on 64 minutes.

Tommy Turner pulled one back in the dying seconds with his second goal in as many games, but it proved no more than a late consolation for the visitors.
