FC United players celebrate sweeping to promotion at the first time of asking with an emphatic 4-0 win over Chadderton at Gigg Lane last night.
There were jubilant scenes as players and supporters celebrated a top two finish in the Moore and Co Construction Solicitors League’s second division – just 10 months after the club was formed from scratch in protest at Malcolm Glazer’s takeover of Manchester United.
A crowd of 2,788 at Gigg Lance came nowhere near matching the record 4,328 who saw them beat Winsford in January, but it was still 40 times what most clubs at this level would expect.
And the jubilant fans watched the Rebels secure their place in the first division and the club are now just two points from wrapping up the second division title.
